DIDACTIC: "STORMS ALSO RETIRE; ENDURE" BY PROFESSOR SULAIMON KHALID

Image
If you don’t retire first, nor take your bowls back with you, your own clouds will gather, your own rain will fall, and fill your buckets. If you don’t fetch the net too early to sleep, thinking the fishes have also gone to sleep, the space you called too wide will carry something weighty; if not a shark, perhaps a whale. If you wait, if you can be patient, what was not enough yesterday, what is not yet enough today, will become more than enough tomorrow, when it is your time. If you don’t rush the harvest, the seeds you sow that seem to grow slow will glow, will yield, and you will fill baskets with what is good and best. If you don’t trade patience for panic, if you don’t swap courage for fear, time will trade your struggles for abundance. If you believe in the process and love each step, if dawn is not yet clear, noon will reveal you bright as the sun, and night will remember you as its star. ©️ PROFESSOR SULAIMON KHALID -Nigeria This poem is a powerful exploration of pa...

REFLECTIVE: "THE SCIENCE OF THE VALLEY" BY MAURICE N CHIADZWA

Image
For I needed to learn growth I needed to know what the top is worth... When we visit the bottom  Life begins to grow and blossom  In the damp moist of washed off water Drinking from below those who're greater Learning the tricks of the game Before the top, before the fame Before hunting the mountain top's game There is need to plant gardens And the green only grows in lower havens I needed to work with my own two hands Before giving off the next person the chance I needed to build a system  That would sustain the top's style and rhythm  Because without the bottom, there's no top A climb without foundation will drop And skill and resources needed to climb high Is only found in those with a will to fly The desire for the top, the seemingly Heavenly  Is only of value to those in the valley So I needed the valley to make sure my tomorrow was sustained And the valley to make me appreciate the top of the mountain © MAURICE N CHIADZWA - Zimbabwe This p...

CONFESSIONAL: "WHAT I REMEMBERED BEFORE I DIED" BY BLACK MEMORIES

Image
I accept the will of fate. On a fertile land I was born surrounded by bloomed roses. Had I known, I would not have plucked them They were covered with beauty but filled with venom. On the mountain  where I laid to rest Unknowingly, there were holes where scorpions dwelt. In a river I swam to calm myself Unknowingly, its calmness was a disguise. I drank from the bitter pot Unknowingly, it was a melted copper full of thorns. My fingertips touched the roses they withered. My prints are full of harm. I remembered before I died My flesh was sliced and served to the starved, My blood poured in rounds their cups like wine. I remembered my soul groaned in pain, But they all smiled, Dined and wined. I remembered before I died “Don’t jump the fence; They won’t cross the gutter  if you fall.” My heart was so cold, it could not notice the evil Not until I kissed the ground. As a worm feeds on an ant. My flesh was dined and wined on a sinful table filled with my sweat, my tears...

FREE VERSE: "CLOSED DOORS AND GUARDED WINDOWS" BY DR. RICHARD OYIBO

Image
Closed doors lined the corridors of our life, The handles so cold, an unspoken refusal. And we knock with hope to open hearts, But the silence rings louder than expected, And each opportunity is a face turned away.   Denial hits home hard, it is a biased world, The timing, the favours, along with the fears, All play a part in unwelcome opportunities, Where difference is measured in looks, And promises run wild while we are waiting.   Even the windows were guarded from afar, Blocking glimpses of what I dream to be, If only courage could outgrow permission. Then ceilings would turn clear and yielding, With no reflections staring in defiance,   Can we rise past locks and window frames? Can we carve lines through ceilings of stone?   For the closed doors forged my resilience, And the guarded windows tested my will, Until nothing remained above but open skies. © DR. RICHARD OYIBO (The Passionate Poet) -Nigeria This poem is a powerful exploration of...

SOCIAL COMMENTRY: "HOLLOW CROWN" BY ABDULMALIK YAHYA

Image
When fools think they matter, they borrow noise for a spine, stand on borrowed bowels, calling rot a ladder. They beat their chests with rented drums, mistake vibration for pulse, mistake volume for value, mistake being seen for being solid. They speak in mirrors, applauded by their own reflections, confuse glare for glitz, confuse attention for fact. They mistake motion for meaning, mistake clapping for consent, mistake survival for significance, and call it legacy. Let them perform their hunger on rooftops, let them crown noise as king. Time has a way of starving feuds of fuel. Watch how emptiness rehearses importance how shallow cups brag loudest when barely full. How dust earns a modest brass once kissed by borrowed sunlight. ©️ ABDULMALIK YAHYA  (The Punsmith) -Nigeria The poem _ Hollow Crown _ is a scathing satire that exposes the emptiness of those who prioritize appearance over substance. The speaker mocks individuals who "borrow...

DIDACTIC: "SEARCHING FOR HAPPINESS" BY DR. RICHARD OYIBO

Image
We journey for miles on tired feet, Chasing smiles that refuse to last. Borrowing comfort off the streets, To restore the memories of our past. We climb the hills of “almost there,” Through dreams and hollow praises, Believing joy appears everywhere, Yet we still feel incomplete each day. We look to the gold and silver doors, In distant lands, grandly designed, Yet miss the truth hung on the walls, A peace that waits in our minds. For true happiness was never far, Not hidden in some offshore place, It lives within our healed-up scars, And reflects through our own face. So still your steps, stop that chase, Let your bliss become your guide, You will find in stillness and in grace, Happiness was you, all along, inside. © DR. RICHARD OYIBO ( The Passionate Poet) -Nigeria The poem " Searching For Happiness"   is a contemplative journey about the futility of seeking happiness externally. The speaker describes chasing fleeting smiles and external validations, only to re...

AMATORY: "HELD UNHELD" BY ABDULMALIK YAHYA

Image
Will I fade in the mystical myth of found but lost? Lost to the purest lust of have, but not. Will my heavy eyes fall, searching for you in depths of blue, drowned by the loudest silence it ever knew? Will hope call my name or stay the same in a game stitched to the helm of may? Will hope kneel low or pass me still, like a votive flame with no will? Will wanting rot before it blooms, and teach my hands the art of rooms. When absence sits like sacred proof, what love can hunger  without a tooth? I pray in want, I fast in need, chew holy absence like a creed. Let love not waste, let it save, like a wound I worship… wide awake. If I am kept, if I am held, like a borrowed soul, solace my find. Know some truths refuse to stay, some arrivals aren’t ways to stray. Will I fade in the mystical myth of found yet lost, lost to the purest lust of have, yet not? ©️  ABDULMALIK YAHYA ( The Punsmith) -Nigeria The poem  _ Held Unheld _  is a poignant exploration of love,...

REFLECTIVE: "MY SILENT WORDS" BY KARIM MAN DE POET

Image
I choose to stay silent, In a world where emojis hold more meaning than words. We live in a world where a book is rated by its prologue and epilogue, Rather than the journey it takes us on. Silence is golden, or so they say, But in a world where noise is constant, It's hard to find peace and quiet. So I choose to stay silent, To let my thoughts speak for themselves. To let my actions do the talking, And to let my heart guide me. For in the end, it's not the words we say, But the things we do that truly matter. ©️  KARIM MAN DE POET -Ghana  The poem _ MY SILENT WORDS _ is a thoughtful reflection on the power of silence in a noisy world. The speaker chooses silence over empty words, critiquing how society often prioritizes surface-level impressions (emojis, book covers) over true meaning. They value actions and inner guidance ("let my heart guide me") over spoken words, concluding that deeds matter more than words. The tone is calm and intros...

SOCIAL COMMENTRY: "OPEN HANDS, EMPTY CONSCIENCE" BY DR RICHARD OYIBO

Image
They dial across oceans without shame,  Voices dipped and thickly coated in sugar,  Guilt is carefully crafted through cables,  The cry of pretence is cleverly concealed.    “Just a little to survive,” is their whisper,  “Times are hard… you know how it is.”  But their hardship has no calluses,  They sit on hands that refuse to work.    For those abroad, the day breaks early,  Aching backs and fingers split by cold.  Every dream eaten from the lunchbox,  Is the sweat we seal into every transfer.    Back home, the chairs take on shapes,  Bottles blossom like flowers on tables,  High spirits grow from sipping on spirits,  And a laughter louder than conscience.      The last drops of currency begin to dry,  Spending all night, forgetting the price.  And the calls come again, well-rehearsed,  The urgency in the delight of their need.    The day will c...

AMATORY: "COSMIC WHISPER" BY THE EVELZ STORY

Image
I will be like the voice of the Stars, I’ll dive into the galaxy of our Love and sing you shining songs. I will balance in your mind, Run through the tarmac of your Thoughts just to see the face of What you think of. Who can break the bone of our Endearing days? My love for you is almost stronger Than the femur of God. You’re the sun that shined after the Rain,  Your the love I felt after pain, You’re what nature sleeps to dream  Of,  You’re the future tomorrow is waiting  To kiss. © THE EVELZ STORY This poem is a soaring ode to love, using celestial imagery to convey the vastness and intensity of the speaker's emotions. REFLECTIVE: "THE MIRROR KNOWS" BY DR. RICHARD OYIBO

Image
When the mirror looks, it looks at me, It does not agree with soft expressions, Nor my pretence of who I am for a while.  ‘It does not admire smiles or beauty, It explores my perfection of survival.’   The mirror is faithful, unlike many, Unimpressed by our performances, It cannot be played by politeness. Staring widely at what we try to avoid, Reflecting the truth as it is retold.   The cracks concealed with confidence, Tears that have sunk into the skin, Strength used to uplift others’ comfort, Every bravery behind the composure, The mirror bears witness to it all.   It sees who I am, who I want to be, It sees when no one is watching, When the burdens are burdensome, When cost is placed on me being fine, And when the spark has left my soul.   As a friend, it puts me back on track, Making no judgement of who I am. Replicating actions, refusing emotions, Even when I try to hide from the world, The mirror knows what I withhold.    © DR. RICH...

Water is not ordinary It carries memory Ancient people knew this That is why they spoke into water before drinking it Every morning take a glass of water Hold it gently And speak into it Say what you want to release Fear Pain Stress Heavy emotions Then say what you want to invite Peace Healing Strength Love Then drink slowly Your body listens to intention Your nervous system responds to ritual Your cells receive the vibration People who do this daily feel lighter Calmer More balanced emotionally Healing does not always come from complicated things Sometimes it comes from simple sacred acts Try it Your body will feel the difference and come and thank me later © DIBIA NWANYIBUIFE  -Nigeria This poem shares an ancient African spiritual practice, guiding readers to tap into water's memory for healing. ODE: "KEEPER OF THE SPRINGS" BY SUMAILA UMAISHA

Image
(for Femi Osofisan) He is a lion who could have been an elephant, combined, but chose antelope tracks, paving pace for tender soles; seekers of ancient springs. Like a warrior after battle who would not rest but drags dawn past midday, he spoon-feeds us ancestral helpings; ìnyó, ewedu, amala, goat head, bigger than the calabash, poetry running raw in bards’ throats. You have worked without hours; the stage shall walk with you to the path’s end. (c) SUMAILA UMAISHA -Nigeria This poem is a heartfelt tribute to Femi Osofisan, celebrating his contributions as a playwright and poet. The poet, Sumaila Umaisha, uses rich metaphors to praise Osofisan's humility and impact, likening him to a lion choosing "antelope tracks" and a warrior nourishing others with ancestral wisdom. The poem highlights Osofisan's dedication to his craft, "working without hours", and predicts his legacy will endure. Cultural references to Nigerian cuisine and traditions add dept...

SOCIAL CRITIQUE: "SHADOWS OF NEGLECT" BY MIC WARRIOR

Image
Do you know the most corrupt ministry in the Gambia,is the ministry of Agriculture. Deforestation  and Nepotism they embrace instead of transparency and accountability. We live  in horrendous environments wind be dangerous bodies. Wore silk in clothing, luxury in car and Manson in house when there are thousands in rural areas facing challenges to feed their family members. Hundreds of people graduated from the Gambia college U.T.G etc. Yet they can't be employed. We have enough water in the grounds we have vast lands. SOCIAL CRITIQUE: "SUDAN MUST NOT DIE IN SILENCE" BY MIC WARRIOR

Image
Where are the voices of justice? Where are the global powers that claim to stand for human rights and peace? The UAE hides behind skyscrapers, but truth always bleeds through  Sudan screams through the silence, and no amount of luxury or lies can bury that sound. They use Islam like a brand, not a belief. They build gold-plated mosques while bombing Muslim villages. They speak “salaam” in press conferences but send weapons through back channels. Silence is what allowed this to last 1,200 years. We must educate and expose — in schools, in music, in mosques, in art. We talk openly about the transatlantic trade, but the Arab slave trade still sits in the shadows. MIC WARRIOR -Zimbabwe +2208691086 This poem is a powerful *Protest Poem* that critiques global powers and highlights the hypocrisy of nations like the UAE in their treatment of Sudan. Through rhetorical questions and vivid imagery, the poet condemns the silence and complicity enabling atrocities in Sudan, calling ...

ODE: "I AM AFRICA YET TO RISE" BY MIC WARRIOR

Image
Ah!  I have my love To give to everyone,  All of who I am. Me! Any man.  A child of the continent,  A citizen of unity Of nations not yet born,  But deeply rooted in the soul of Africa. I come from everywhere,  From Sankara’s courage,  From Nkrumah’s vision,  From Lumumba’s fire,  From a people stitched together  By struggle, strength, and song. From a land  Still divided by borders  That never asked our permission. I rise from the dust,  Not broken only waiting.  From a nation that does not yet exist,  But must. I have come.  I am here.  I am Africa, awakening. And I belong. © MIC WARRIOR -Gambia The poem "I Am Africa Yet to Rise" is a powerful expression of pan-African identity and unity, weaving together themes of heritage, struggle, and awakening. It celebrates African leaders like Sankara, Nkrumah, and Lumumba, while lamenting the artificial borders that div...
